How we view “worship music” at FAC

We exist as God’s creation. Through his son Jesus Christ, God revealed that he is seeking worshippers, a people, who will worship him in spirit and in truth (John 4:23–24). And though we have a knowledge of our sinful, broken nature, through the work of the Holy Spirit, we pursue to be that people. In the context of our services together as a local body of believers, we use the revelation that is described above to guide how we think about the music we partake in together.

In spirit:

We sing to turn our affections and emotions toward Jesus so we can truly see who he is for us and for the world. In this, as we gather, we know our spirits will be edified as we all, in unity, focus on the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. Singing and playing music is ONE environment in which this can happen.

In truth:

We pursue both aspects of Jesus’ revelation to us. In truth, we should proclaim the realities of how God is working in the world. We should proclaim the revelatory truths of Jesus. And we should intensely ask the Spirit of God to humble us, build us up, and point our minds to Jesus. Singing and playing music is ONE environment in which this can happen.

“In spirit and in truth” is what we pursue, and invite all who attend our weekend services to join us in that journey.

Music Team

MUSICIAN / VOCALIST

The music team positions are:

  • Vocals

  • Piano/keyboard

  • Acoustic guitar

  • Electric guitar

  • Bass guitar

  • Drums

To try out for the music team, we’ll ask you to practice some songs that we sing on the regular, and set up a time to audition.

Tech Team

What happens on the platform on Sunday mornings can’t happen without LOTS of behind-the-scenes work. Our tech team volunteers are a big part of that, making them just as important as our musicians and vocalists.

We’re always looking for volunteers. So if you have an interest in technology, there’s definitely a position for you! All that’s required is a heart for serving God and the church family, and a willingness to receive training on the tech equipment from our ministry leaders.

Here are the tech team positions:

Computer Graphics Operator

Operates content on the projector (song lyrics, sermon slides, announcements, videos, etc.). Also performs the lighting changes throughout the morning. All slides and light cues are pre-built by our music ministry team.

Sound Board Operator

Controls the sound board to ensure that the band sounds amazing and that speaking microphones are at the proper volumes. Works with band and speakers to check levels before rehearsal and service.

Livestream/Camera operator

Runs the livestream process from start to finish so you can be a part of our Sunday morning service from home if you’re unable to attend.

We’re in the process of upgrading our livestream equipment, so stay tuned for more details!

Meet the staff

MICHAEL SIMONS
Music Coordinator
msimons@facerie.org

Hello there, I’m Michael (not Mike … there are too many of those around the church!). I am technically the assistant for the music ministry, but my boss seems to be missing, so I’m filling both pairs of shoes for now!

I’ve attended FAC since I was born, and have done everything here from preschool and AWANA to youth group and young adults. I’m currently a sophomore at Penn State Behrend studying Computer Science. So between all of that and my love of music, it’s safe to say I enjoy working with the music ministry at FAC.

I led the facYOUTH music team while I was in high school (which I accomplished by borrowing songs, equipment, and people from the Sunday morning music team that I now oversee). I am also currently a part of Brandon Fox Worship and The Band 814, two amazing local Christian bands.

I don’t go a day without listening to music. My hope is that I can share the joy of good music with others, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to do so at FAC.
